Ringed-Neck Pheasant

Ringed-Neck Pheasant

Pheasants can be found on all of the main Hawaiian Islands, but are especially common on the grassy slopes of Hawaii and Maui. They were introduced here about 1865 and are native to Asia. This male is particularly colorful with a long pointed tail and the distinctive white ring around his neck. Females are more dully colored and smaller. These birds prefer grassy areas or forest edge.
