Snail

This unidentified land-based snail, NOT thought to be Achetinella species, paused for a recent photograph. On Oahu, the Oahu tree snail, the native genus Achatinella, is an extremely rare and endangered snail species. It has brightly colored elongated spiral shells. The members of the genus live only in trees. All members of a single species, with their species specific, colorful shell pattern sometimes are found living on just a single or very small cluster of trees. The genus formerly had over 42 species but is now reduced to only 7-8 surviving species. James Brennan Molokai Hawaii
